ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Confederation of British Industry

Okay, so you know how sometimes adults work together to make things happen? Like when your parents and their friends plan a big party and everyone brings something? That's kind of what the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) is.

The CBI is a group of lots of different grown-up companies and businesses in the United Kingdom (that's where we live!). These businesses all have different jobs and make different things, but they all agree on one thing: they want to work together to make the economy (that's how we talk about money and jobs and stuff making the country run) as good as it can be.

So, imagine all these companies sitting around a big table, talking about what they can do to make sure people have jobs and can buy the things they need. They might talk about things like what the government can do to help businesses, or how they can work together to create new and better products.

Some people think the CBI is a really important group because they can use their power and knowledge to help make the country better for everyone. But some other people don't like the CBI, because they think the businesses in it care more about making money than about helping people.

Either way, the Confederation of British Industry is a big group of companies that want to work together to make the UK better, kind of like how you and your friends all work together to have a great playdate.
