ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Conflict (narrative)

Okay kiddo, so do you ever read a book or watch a movie and there's some kind of problem that the characters have to solve? That problem is called a conflict. It's like a big challenge or obstacle that the main character has to face.

Sometimes the conflict is something as simple as a character losing their favorite toy, or it can be bigger like trying to save the world from bad guys. But the conflict is what makes the story interesting and exciting!

As you read or watch the story, you'll notice that the characters are trying to overcome the conflict in some way. They might work together to figure out a solution, or they might have to use their bravery or intelligence to beat the challenge.

The important part is that the conflict keeps the story exciting and helps the characters learn and grow. And when the conflict is finally resolved, it feels really satisfying because it's like all their hard work paid off. So conflicts, even though they may seem difficult, are actually what make stories great!
