ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Conscientious objection to abortion

Okay kiddo, so sometimes people believe that it's not okay to have an abortion. This is called "conscientious objection." It means that they don't think it's right to end a pregnancy and they don't want to be a part of it.

Some doctors or nurses might feel this way - they might not want to perform an abortion because they feel like it's against their beliefs. And some people who work at hospitals might not want to help with abortions for the same reason.

But even if someone has a conscientious objection, they still have to follow the law. That means that they can't stop someone else from getting an abortion if it's legal where they live. So while they might not agree with it, they can't force their beliefs onto someone else.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
