Okay kiddo, have you ever seen an old photograph that looks faded or has tears in it? Well, when we want to save those old photos so we can keep looking at them, we use something called conservation and restoration.
Conservation means taking care of something so it doesn't get any worse. So, when we want to conserve a photograph, we try to protect it from things that can damage it more. For example, we might keep it in a protective cover or put it in a special box so it doesn't get dusty or get too much sunlight on it.
Restoration means fixing something that is already damaged. So, when we want to restore an old photograph, we try to make it look as good as new! We can do things like fixing rips or tears in the photo, or cleaning it so it looks brighter and clearer.
Sometimes, restoration can be tricky because we don't want to change the original photo too much. We want to keep it looking like it did when it was taken. But, if we do a good job, the photo can look amazing again, just like new!
