ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Conservatorship

Okay kiddo, I am going to explain what conservatorship is.

Sometimes, some people need help to make good decisions or take care of themselves. This could be because they are sick, have a disability or maybe they are not old enough to take care of themselves like you.

When this happens, a judge can appoint someone called a "conservator" to help take care of them. The conservator is usually a family member, friend, or a professional who will make decisions for the person who needs help, like paying bills, making sure they eat healthy food, and taking them to see a doctor.

When someone is appointed a conservator, they are given a lot of responsibility to make sure the person they are taking care of is safe and happy. The conservator has to make good choices for the person they are helping and always keep their best interests in mind.

Conservatorship helps protect people who might not be able to help themselves and ensures they are taken care of properly.
