ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Legal guardian

A legal guardian is like a grown-up who is responsible for taking care of a child or a person who cannot take care of themselves. It's like when your mommy or daddy takes care of you because you are too little and cannot do things on your own.

Sometimes, kids or people need someone to take care of them because their parents are not able to or have passed away. A judge or a court decides who will be the legal guardian of a child or a person who needs help.

Being a legal guardian means that you have to make sure that the child or person is safe, healthy and happy. You have to make important decisions for them, like where they live, what they eat, and where they go to school. You also have to make sure they get the medical attention they need if they are sick.

So, being a legal guardian is a big responsibility, but it also means that you can give a child or a person a safe and loving home and help them grow into happy and healthy adults.
