The Copleston-Russell debate was a famous argument between two philosophers in 1948. The two philosophers, Frederick Copleston and Bertrand Russell, argued about whether or not God exists. Copleston argued that God does exist, while Russell argued that there is no evidence for God and that He cannot be proven to exist. They went back and forth for nine hours, trying to prove their points. At the end of the debate, neither Copleston nor Russell won. They both made good points, but neither was able to convince the other of their beliefs. This debate was very important in the study of philosophy, as it showed that two people can disagree about a topic but still be respectful and willing to learn from each other.
