Copyright Act of Canada

Okay kiddo, so have you ever heard of a picture or a movie or a song that someone made? Well, when someone makes something like that, they have the right to say who can use it or copy it. That's called copyright.

In Canada, we have rules called the Copyright Act that help protect people who create things. It's like a special set of rules that say no one can use or copy a picture, movie or song without the maker's permission.

There are also rules about how long someone's copyright lasts. So, if you drew a really cool picture right now, you would have the right to say who can copy it or use it for a certain amount of time.

But, there are also rules about when someone CAN use something without permission. For example, teachers can copy parts of a book for their students to read in school. Or, someone can use a song in a video they make, but they have to give credit to the person who made the song.

The Copyright Act is important because it helps protect people's hard work and makes sure they get credit when someone uses or copies their creations.
