A corbel arch is a special kind of arch that is built using a technique called corbelling. It's like building a castle with blocks or Legos, except instead of plastic blocks, we use stones or bricks.
Imagine you are making a tower out of Legos. You start at the bottom and build up, but as you get to the top you realize you don't have enough Legos to make a proper roof. That's where corbelling comes in.
With corbelling, you start at the top and build outwards, one brick or stone at a time, like a pyramid. Each layer sticks out a little bit further than the one below it, until you have enough to make a flat roof or arch. It's like playing a game of Jenga, where you stack the blocks carefully so they don't fall down.
A corbel arch is made up of many layers of bricks or stones that gradually step out from the wall until they meet in the middle. This creates a sort of triangle shape that's very strong and can support a lot of weight.
Corbel arches were used in ancient times, before people knew how to build the big arches we see in churches and other big buildings. They were used in lots of different cultures all over the world, and you can still see examples of them today in old buildings and ruins.
