ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

A quasar is a very bright object in space. It's the brightest type of galaxy and the most distant object in the universe that we can see. Quasars are made up of huge amounts of gas and dust swirling around a very big black hole in the middle. This gas is pulled in by the black hole's gravity, and as it does, it makes a lot of energy and light. The light from a quasar is so bright that it can be seen all the way across the universe!
