ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cord (unit)

A cord is a unit of measurement used to measure large amounts of firewood. It's like a big pile of sticks that you would use to make a fire.

Imagine you have a big imaginary box that measures 4 feet tall, 8 feet long, and 4 feet wide. If you fill that box all the way up with pieces of firewood that are 4 feet long, you would have a cord of firewood.

So basically, a cord is just a really big pile of firewood that's measured in a specific way. It's used so that people can accurately buy and sell firewood without any confusion about how much they're getting.
