ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Imperial units

Imperial units are a way of measuring things, like how big or heavy something is. They are called "imperial" because they were first used a long time ago in England when it was an empire.

Some common imperial units are inches, feet, yards, miles, pounds, and ounces.

For example, if you want to measure how tall you are, you might use feet and inches. You would say "I am 4 feet 6 inches tall."

If you want to measure how heavy something is, you might use pounds and ounces. For example, a bag of apples might weigh 2 pounds and 4 ounces.

Imperial units can be a bit confusing because they aren't always easy to convert between. For example, if you want to know how many feet are in a mile, you would need to know that there are 5,280 feet in a mile.

Overall, imperial units are just one way that people can measure things. Other places in the world use different systems, like metric units, which can make it tricky to compare measurements between different countries.
