ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cordeliers

Cordeliers were a group of people who lived long, long ago. They were like a group of friends who always wanted to help other people who were poor or having a hard time.

They got their name from the cords they wore around their waists instead of belts. These cords were a symbol of how they wanted to live simply and give away extra money or things to people who needed them.

Cordeliers also liked to talk about big ideas like how to make the world a fairer and better place for everyone. They would get together and talk about these ideas in places called "cordeliers houses" which were like special meeting rooms.

Many famous people were cordeliers, like Saint Francis of Assisi, who loved animals and wanted to help poor people too. Cordeliers also played an important role in the French Revolution, which was a big change in how people in France were ruled.

Overall, cordeliers were people who cared about others and wanted to make the world a better place while living simply themselves.
