ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cordwood construction

Cordwood construction is like playing with big Lego blocks made of wood. Imagine you have a lot of logs of different sizes and shapes that you stack together to build a house. But you can't just put them on top of each other like a tower, because the house needs to be strong and last a long time. So you need to be careful and put the logs in a special way.

First, you need to make sure the logs are dry, not wet, and have been cut into pieces that are about the same length. Then, you lay down some mortar on the ground in a circle shape. It's like a gooey paste that helps the logs stick together.

Next, you start stacking the logs on top of each other, making sure they're not too big or too small. You need to leave some space between the logs, but not too much. This is like putting Lego blocks side by side, but not too close or too far apart.

As you keep stacking, you can add different colors or shapes of logs for a cool design. And you can also put windows, doors, and a roof on the house.

When you're done, you have a strong and unique house made of logs, just like you built it with your Lego blocks.
