ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Core-periphery structure

The core-periphery structure is like a star-shape. At the center of the star is the "core," and the points of the star are the "periphery."

The core is usually made up of the most important parts of a system, such as the most powerful people or the most influential countries. These are the people or countries who have the most money, power, and influence. They are usually in control of everything that goes on in the system.

The periphery, on the other hand, is made up of the less important parts of the system. These are usually the people or countries with less power or influence. They are not in control, but they are still part of the system and can be affected by it.

The core and the periphery interact with each other: the core dictates what happens in the periphery and the periphery reacts to the decisions made in the core. This creates a structure with the core at the center and the periphery around it.
