ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Semi-periphery countries

Semi-periphery countries are countries that are in between the rich, powerful countries (called core countries) and the poorer, less powerful countries (called the periphery). These countries have some advantages and disadvantages compared to both the core and periphery countries. For example, they can often access resources, technology, and trade more easily than the periphery, but not quite as easily as the core. They also typically have their own unique culture and economy that isn't quite like either the core or the periphery.
