Corrosion engineering

Corrosion engineering is about doing things to protect metal from being eaten away by rust. Rust is a type of damage that happens when metal comes into contact with moisture or certain chemicals. It is caused when the metal reacts with oxygen or water in the air. Corrosion engineers use different treatments and materials to stop the rust from taking over. For example, they can coat the metal with a protective coating, use special materials like galvanized steel, or use inhibitors that stop the rust-causing chemicals from reacting with the metal.
