ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Corticosteroid

Corticosteroids are like superhero medicine that help our bodies fight inflammation, allergies, and other bad things. Think of them like the avengers, who always save the day. These medicines are made in a laboratory and act like a hormone called cortisol that is naturally made by our bodies. When we get sick or hurt, our body's immune system helps us fight off infections and heal. But sometimes, our immune system can overreact and cause inflammation, which can be painful and make us feel sick. That's where corticosteroids come in to save the day! They can calm down our overactive immune system, reduce inflammation, and help us feel better. But, just like the avengers, corticosteroids are not always needed and can also have side effects, so it's important to talk to a doctor before taking them.
