Corunda

Alright kiddo, have you ever eaten a yummy tamale before? Well, corunda is a special kind of tamale that comes from the state of Michoacán in Mexico.

Instead of being wrapped up in a corn husk like a regular tamale, corundas are made with a special kind of leaf called hoja santa. They also have a triangular shape and are flatter than regular tamales.

The filling inside a corunda is usually made of mashed up beans or fresh cheese, and sometimes they even have pieces of pork or chicken mixed in.

When you eat a corunda, it's important to remember that the leaf it's wrapped in isn't meant to be eaten. Just like how you take the banana peel off a banana, you need to peel the hoja santa leaf off the corunda before you can bite into it.

So there you have it, corunda is just a special kind of tamale from Michoacán that's wrapped in a hoja santa leaf and has a yummy filling inside. Enjoy!
