Counter-battery fire

Imagine you have a bunch of toys spread out in your room, and your sibling starts throwing toys at you. You want to stop them from throwing more toys, so you start throwing your own toys back at them to make them stop. This is kind of like what counter-battery fire is.

Counter-battery fire is when one group of soldiers tries to stop another group of soldiers from firing their own weapons. In war, soldiers use things like artillery guns to shoot big bullets or bombs at the enemy. But if the soldiers on the other side of the battlefield know where those weapons are, they can fire their own weapons back at them to stop them from shooting more.

So, if your sibling is firing toys at you and you see where they are throwing from, you can start throwing your own toys back at them to get them to stop. This is called counter-battery fire in war. It can be dangerous because the soldiers firing the weapons don't know where the counter-battery fire is coming from and might be hit by mistake.
