Counterfactual history

Counterfactual history is a way of thinking about what might have happened if things had been different in the past. Think of it like a "what if" game.

For example, imagine you spilled your juice on your shirt this morning. Counterfactual history would be like asking, "What if I had used a different cup? Would I have spilled my juice then?"

Historians play this game too, but with events that happened a long time ago. They ask questions like, "What if Hitler had won World War II? What would the world be like today?"

It can be a fun way to imagine different outcomes and understand why things happened the way they did. But it's important to remember that counterfactual history isn't real - it's just speculation about alternate possibilities.
