Coup de grâce

Okay kiddo, so imagine you are playing a game of pretend with your friend and you both are knights fighting with swords. Now let's say that you hit your friend with the sword and they fall down on the ground.

But wait, they are not completely defeated yet. They are still breathing and might stand up and continue playing. So to make sure that they won't keep fighting and to end the game, you need to give them a very strong and final blow with your sword.

This final blow is called a coup de grâce (pronounced koo-de-grah) and it ensures that your opponent will not get up and keep playing. It is like a finishing move that ends the game and declares you the winner.

In real life, coup de grâce is a term used in battles or wars when a person has been gravely wounded and is suffering. To end their suffering, a soldier will deliver a final, merciful blow to put them out of their pain. It is a sad but necessary action that helps ease the pain and suffering of the injured person.
