A teletype terminal is a device that looks like a typewriter, but instead of making marks on paper like a regular typewriter, it sends and receives messages electronically. When you type on a teletype terminal, the letters and words are sent (or typed) to another computer or device, and then that computer or device sends back its response (or answer) to you.
