Dissent is when you disagree with something that a lot of other people think, like a rule or decision. It's when you don't go along with the majority and say that you have a different opinion. For example, if the majority of people in your class say that the sky is green, but you think it's blue, you would be dissenting — you would be disagreeing with what most people think.
