Court leet

So, let's pretend you are playing with your friends in your backyard. You are the leader and you make rules like "no running near the pool" and "no picking flowers from the garden". You want everyone to follow these rules so nobody gets hurt or in trouble.

Well, imagine if there was a really big backyard that lots of people played in. It would be too hard for just one person to make all the rules and make sure everyone followed them. That's where something called a court leet comes in.

A court leet is like a group of grown-up leaders who make rules for a big area like a village or a town. They would meet regularly to talk about problems in the area and come up with new rules to help keep everyone safe and happy.

This group would also have the power to settle arguments between people in the area. So if two people were fighting over something like a piece of land or a cow, they could take it to the court leet and the members would listen to both sides and decide who was right.

Basically, a court leet is a group of grown-ups who make sure everyone plays nice in their big backyard.
