Cover (intelligence gathering)

Cover is a way for people to get information about a topic or person without others knowing what they are doing. For example, a detective might use cover to find out about a criminal by pretending to be someone else, like a neighbor or a store employee. They can then get information like what the criminal was doing, who they were talking to, and other details without the criminal knowing they were looking into them.
