ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Coverage (genetics)

Coverage (genetics) is the number of times a spot in the DNA is studied. In other words, it's a measure of how much of the DNA we've looked at. To understand it, think of the DNA like a whole library book. Coverage is like counting how many times we read each word in the book. If we have high coverage, it means that we have read over each word in the book a lot so we can get a good idea of what the book is about. Low coverage means that we have skipped some of the words or not read the book very much.
