ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

pancreas

The pancreas is an organ in your body that helps to digest food and maintain stable blood sugar levels. It does this by releasing a few different kinds of hormones. One kind helps your body break down food for energy, and another kind helps keep your blood sugar levels in a safe range. The pancreas also helps your body by producing enzymes (chemical messengers) that help break down fats, proteins, and carbohydrates from food. Without the pancreas, your body wouldn't be able to process food the same way and your blood sugar levels may become too high or too low.
