ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Credit reference

Credit reference is a way for lenders to learn about how trustworthy you may be in paying back a loan or making credit payments. Lenders will look at your "credit reference" and make a decision on whether they will lend you money. Credit references typically include things like your past payment history, how much debt you have taken on, and your current credit score. All of this information helps lenders understand if you have been able to meet payment obligations in the past, which can help them decide if it's safe to lend to you in the future.
