ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Critical speed

Critical speed is how fast you have to go on a spinning object before something bad happens. It's like when you spin around and around on a merry-go-round - if you go too fast, you might fall off or get dizzy.

For bigger things, like planes or cars, it's important to know the critical speed so that they don't break or crash. Imagine you're in a car on a really windy road - if you drive too fast, the wind could cause the car to flip over. The critical speed is the speed limit for how fast you can safely drive without that happening.

Scientists figure out the critical speed by doing math and testing things in a lab. They want to make sure that anything that's supposed to spin or move around doesn't break or get damaged when it goes too fast. So, critical speed is like an important rule that keeps us safe when things are spinning or moving really fast.
