ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Critique

Okay kiddo, let me explain critique to you. Have you ever drawn a picture or made something with blocks and then showed it to your parents or teacher? And then they gave you some feedback – like "wow, great job, I love the colors you used" or "this looks nice, but maybe you could try drawing the sun a bit bigger" – That's critique!

Critique means taking a closer look at something someone has made or done, and giving our thoughts and opinions on what we think they did well, and what they could have done differently or better. It's like giving advice to help someone do even better next time!

Critique can be helpful for lots of things, not just art projects. It can be used to make a book, a movie or a song better, or to help someone get better at sports or schoolwork. It's not about being mean, but about being honest and constructive.

So when you ask someone to critique something you've done, try not to get upset if they say something you don't like. Instead, listen to what they say and try to learn from it. Remember, critique is just one person's opinion, and it's up to you to decide whether or not to take it on board.
