ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Crony-capitalism index

Okay kiddo, so you know how when you play with your friends you have your favorite toys and you don't like it when someone takes them away from you, right? Well, something similar happens with big companies and the government.

Some companies are really powerful and have lots of money. They try to use that money to get what they want from the government. They might ask the government to make rules that will help them make more money, even if it's not good for everyone else.

This is called crony capitalism. It's when the government and big companies are too friendly and they help each other out, even if it's not fair or good for the people.

The crony-capitalism index tries to measure how bad this is in different countries. It looks at things like how much influence big companies have over the government and how much they benefit from it.

It's important to measure this because if there's too much crony capitalism, then it's not fair for everyone else. It can also hurt the economy and make things more expensive for regular people.

So, the crony-capitalism index helps us see which countries are doing a good job of keeping things fair for everyone and which ones need to do better.
