ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Crustacean

Crustaceans are sea animals that can sometimes also be found in freshwater. They have a hard outer shell called an exoskeleton that protects their soft bodies. Think of it like a suit of armor that they wear all the time.

Crustaceans come in many shapes and sizes, like crabs, lobsters, shrimp and crayfish. They use their hard shells to protect themselves from predators and to stay safe while they search for food.

Most crustaceans have two pairs of antennae on their heads. These antennae are like their sense organs, helping them to detect smells and things in their environment. Some crustaceans, like lobsters, also have a pair of claws that they use to catch food and to defend themselves.

On their bellies, crustaceans have a series of legs that they use to move around. These legs are also covered with little hairs called setae that help them feel things in their environment.

Overall, crustaceans are very interesting and diverse animals that you can find in oceans and freshwater all around the world!
