ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Crusties

Crusties are little bits of dirt, dead skin cells, and dried up liquids that form a hard, crusty layer around certain parts of our body. You might find crusties around your nose, at the corners of your eyes when you first wake up in the morning, or even inside your ears!

These little crusties are completely normal and happen to everyone. They form when certain fluids in our body dry up and harden, trapping any dirt or dead skin cells in the mix. They might look a little gross, but they're actually a sign that your body is working the way it should.

To get rid of crusties, you can gently clean the affected area with a soft cloth or tissue. Just be careful not to scratch or irritate the skin too much! With a little bit of cleaning, you can get rid of those pesky crusties and feel fresh and clean again!
