Cuban-American relations are the relations between the people and governments of Cuba and the United States. They have been strained for many years because of the different kinds of governments each country has. In Cuba, the government is a communist one-party system, which means that one political party has all the power and dictates what people in the country can do. In the United States, the government is a democracy, which means that the people get to vote and decide on many things like who their leaders will be and what laws their leaders will pass. Because of this difference, the two countries have had many disagreements over the years. In addition, Cuba is close to the US geographically, which has led to some political tension as well. In 2015, the Obama administration made some major changes to the relationship between the two countries and the two leaders have held talks to try and resolve some of their differences. While there is still a lot of mistrust between the countries, the relationship has improved in recent years.
