mayan civilization

The Mayan civilization was a group of people who lived in Central America, mainly in present-day Guatemala and Mexico, sometime between 1000 BC and 1500. The Mayans were very advanced people - they had their own writing, used mathematics and astronomy, and built big stone pyramids and other temples. They even had a calendar that was more accurate than the one we use today! The Mayan civilization didn't last very long - no one is sure why it disappeared in 1500, but it is still remembered for its amazing achievements.
