ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cultural transmission

Okay kiddo, so you know how people have different cultures and ways of doing things based on where they come from and who they grew up with? Cultural transmission is how those customs, beliefs, and behaviors get passed down from one generation to the next. It's like how your parents might teach you how to celebrate a holiday or how to cook a certain kind of food that's important to your family.

Sometimes cultural transmission happens through stories and traditions that are shared orally or through celebrations and rituals that have been passed down for years. Other times it's more formal, like when a school teaches a language or history that's tied to a certain culture.

It's important to remember that not all cultures are the same and some might value different things than others. But cultural transmission helps us learn about and appreciate those differences, which can help us understand and respect people who come from different backgrounds than us.
