Culture and menstruation

There are many different cultures and beliefs around the world about menstruation. Menstruation is when a girl or woman has bleeding from her vagina every month, and it is a sign that she is growing up and getting closer to becoming an adult. Typically, when a person begins to get their period (start to menstruate or have her period) it is a time of celebration for a person. Different cultures have different celebrations or traditions to mark this important time in a person's life. For example, in some cultures, when a girl starts to menstruate she gets gifts, or a special ceremony is held, or there is a special food cooked to celebrate the occasion. In other cultures, the girl might not be allowed to do certain things or go certain places while she is menstruating because of religious or cultural beliefs. It is important to be respectful of different beliefs and cultures about menstruation.
