Cyclobutane

Cyclobutane is like a box made out of four little sticks called carbon atoms. Each of the carbon atoms has two other atoms called hydrogen atoms that like to stick to them. Think of it like a big puzzle, where the carbon sticks are the edges and the hydrogen is the corners.

Now, because there are only four carbon sticks holding everything together, cyclobutane is a bit of an unstable box. If you push it too hard, it might break apart and the hydrogen atoms will go flying away. But if you're gentle with it, it can form really interesting shapes and structures, kind of like a tiny Lego house.

Scientists study cyclobutane because it can react with other molecules in cool ways, like swapping hydrogen atoms for something else. It can help us understand how chemicals work and how we can make new things from them.
