DC motor

A DC motor is like a toy car that moves forward when you push a button. Except instead of a button, there are some wires that connect to a battery or power source. When you connect the wires to the power source, the motor starts to spin. This spinning makes the wheels turn and move the toy car forward.

But how does it work? Well, the DC in DC motor stands for "Direct Current". This means that the electricity flows in a straight line, like a river flowing down a hill. This straight line of electricity goes into the motor and makes it spin like a wheel.

Inside the motor, there is a part called a "commutator". This is like a switch that turns the electricity on and off, very quickly. It does this so that the electricity flows in a way that makes the motor spin round and round.

Another part inside the motor is the "armature". This is like a spinning rod with little coils of wire wrapped around it. As the commutator turns on and off, the coils of wire on the armature become like little magnets. They attract and repel other magnets inside the motor, and this makes the armature spin round and round.
