ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

DHN Food Distributors Ltd v Tower Hamlets London Borough Council

So, imagine you have a toy that you want to share with your friend. You both really want to play with it and have fun. But, there's only one problem: your mom says you can't share it with your friend because your friend lives in a different neighborhood.

Now, let's imagine this is like two grown-ups who have businesses. One grown-up, called DHN Food Distributors Limited, wants to have a warehouse in a neighborhood called Tower Hamlets in London. The other grown-up, called Tower Hamlets London Borough Council, says that DHN can't have a warehouse there because their business doesn't fit the rules in that area.

DHN doesn't agree with the decision and goes to court to ask a judge to make the council change their mind. But, the judge agrees with the council and says DHN can't have a warehouse in that neighborhood. DHN is very unhappy about this.

Just like when you can't share your toy with your friend, sometimes grown-ups have to follow rules that might mean they can't do what they want. And even when they ask a judge to help, they might not get what they want.
