Silk is a special type of fabric that is made from the cocoons of silkworms. Silkworms are larvae that live in cocoons made out of a silky fiber they produce. Silkworms spin the fiber around themselves to make the cocoons, and then humans weave the fibers together to make fabric. Silk is soft and smooth, and it is often used to make special clothes like fancy dresses, ties, and pajamas. Because it is strong and lightweight, silk is also used to make parachutes and bicycle tires.
