Okay, kiddo, so you know when you eat an apple and there are parts that you can't eat, like the core or the seeds? Well, the same thing happens with silk!
When people make silk from silkworms, they have to take off parts that are not fit to become fabric. These leftover parts are called "silk waste". It includes dead pupas (which are un-spun cocoons of silkworm), broken cocoons, and other scraps from the production process.
But don't worry, this silk waste is not thrown away! People can reuse the silk waste to make other things like paper, mats, or even insulation for buildings. It's kind of like recycling!
So even though the silk waste might not be good enough to become a beautiful silk dress, it still has plenty of uses and can help reduce waste in the world!
