ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dark flow

Hello there! Do you know how when you play with a ball, it always goes in the direction you throw it? Similarly, everything in space, like stars and galaxies, should also move in a certain direction. However, scientists have found something strange in space that doesn't follow this rule. It's called the "Dark Flow."

Scientists have discovered that some galaxies are moving towards a strange spot in space, which is really far away from our galaxy. This area is called the "cold spot." Scientists think that there might be something so big and heavy in that area that it is pulling the galaxies towards it. But the catch is, we can't see it because it doesn't give off any light or other signals.

The reason scientists call it "dark flow" is that it's like an invisible river in space, flowing towards the cold spot. It's called "dark" because whatever is causing this flow is invisible or "dark," which means we can't see it with our eyes, and it's called a "flow" because things seem to be moving in the same direction.

Scientists are still trying to figure out what's causing this dark flow. Some of them think that there may be other universes out there, tugging at galaxies in our universe. Others have proposed that it's a remnant of the big bang, the massive explosion that created the universe.

Overall, the dark flow is still a mystery, but scientists are trying to find out what's causing it and what it means for our understanding of the universe.
