ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Data deduplication

Hey kiddo, do you ever notice how some of your toys are just the same as each other? For example, maybe you have two identical Legos or two Barbies that look the same. That's kind of like what data deduplication does!

Imagine you have a bunch of pictures on your tablet or phone, some of them could be exact copies of each other, but you don’t need two copies of the same picture, right? That's what data deduplication helps with - it "looks" at all the pictures (or data) you have, and if any of them are the same, it only keeps one and gets rid of the others.

This is important because having duplicate data takes up space on your device or computer that could be used for something else. So by getting rid of all the duplicates, you save lots of space and keep your computer or device running smoothly.

And just like when you organize your toys with bins for dolls, Legos, and stuffed animals, data deduplication sorts all the data in your computer, phone, tablet or other device, and puts all the unique pieces of data in the right place. Isn't that cool, kiddo?
