ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Data-driven security

Data-driven security is when we use lots of information about security threats and attacks to help protect us from those threats. Just like how doctors use lots of information about diseases and viruses to help keep us healthy, security professionals use lots of information about cyber attacks and hackers to help keep us safe online.

Imagine you have a castle and you want to protect it from bad guys who might try to break in. To do this, you need to know how they might try to break in and what weapons they might use. If you learn this information, you can build a stronger castle with better defenses to keep them out. The same thing goes for data-driven security. Security professionals use lots of information about past attacks and hacking attempts to build better defenses that can stop those attacks in the future.

This information can come from many places, like security software that scans your computer for viruses or from reports of cyber attacks from other companies and organizations. With all of this information, security professionals can build better software, create stronger passwords, and develop other ways to keep you safe online. So, just like a doctor uses information to keep us healthy, data-driven security uses information to keep our computers and personal information safe.
