Okay kiddo, so you know how when you go to bed at night, your body takes a rest too? Well, while you're sleeping, your body tries to keep your blood sugar levels just right. It does this by making something called insulin.
But sometimes, when you wake up in the morning, your blood sugar levels might be a bit higher than they were when you went to bed. This is what we call the 'dawn phenomenon'.
Now, it's normal for your blood sugar levels to go up a little bit when you wake up, because your body is preparing you for the day ahead. It's getting ready to tackle all the things you'll be doing!
But sometimes, your body might make too much sugar while you're sleeping, and the insulin can't keep up. This can cause your blood sugar levels to get too high, which can be a problem.
But don't worry, there are things you can do to help keep your blood sugar levels under control. Eating a healthy breakfast, getting enough exercise, and taking any medications your doctor prescribes can all help. And if you ever have any concerns, you can always talk to your doctor or a grown-up you trust.
