ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Decantation

Okay kiddo, so let's imagine you have a glass of orange juice with some pulp in it. Sometimes we don't like the pulp and want just the juice. So what we can do is pour the orange juice into another glass, but we do it really slowly and carefully so that the pulp stays in the original glass. This is called decantation!

Decantation is a process where we separate liquids from solids by carefully pouring the liquid into another container while leaving the solid in the original container behind. It's kind of like pouring a drink without ice, so you leave the ice in the glass. We use decantation in lots of different situations, like when we want to separate oil from water or when we want to get rid of sediment that has settled at the bottom of a liquid.

So, in simple terms, decantation is just pouring one thing into another thing and leaving some stuff behind. So next time you pour a drink, think about how you're doing decantation!
