ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Decline of Detroit

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago, Detroit was a really magical city. Lots of people worked there and made really cool cars that everyone wanted to buy. There were lots of big buildings and people felt really important living there.

But then, some not so great things started happening. Some people stopped buying those cool cars and started getting them somewhere else. People started moving out of Detroit because they couldn't find good jobs like they used to have. Some parts of the city started getting really dirty and dangerous because there weren't enough people working hard to keep them clean and safe.

As time went on, things just got worse and worse. People didn't have enough money to fix up their homes or their streets. Lots of buildings and factories were abandoned because nobody was using them anymore. This made things even more dangerous and scary for the people who stayed in Detroit.

So now, Detroit is a lot different than it used to be. It's not as magical and important-feeling as it used to be. But that doesn't mean there aren't still people living there and trying to make it a better place. It's just a reminder that things can change, and we all have to work together to make sure our cities and towns stay strong and thriving.
