ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Decomposition

Decomposition is when things break down and turn into smaller pieces. Think about when you eat a banana. When you're done, eventually it will break down and turn into mush. Some things break down faster than others, like food, while others can take a really long time, like plastic or metal. When things decompose, they can turn into different things too. This can be good because it helps the earth and other living things survive by giving them nutrients they need. It can also be bad because some things, like chemicals or waste, can pollute and hurt the environment. So, decomposition is like when something transforms or changes into something else over time.
